Rajani Gurung had never imagined that she would get chance to work with the ‘Loot’ director Nischal Basnet. But, for her, who was working in Gurung films being based in Pokhara, the imagination that she never thought has come true. 23-year-old Rajani, a Bachelor level student at the Pokahra-based Janapriya Multiple Campus says, “Almost all artists in Kathmandu wish to work with Nischal dai. But, I had never imagined working with him.”
Rajani had worked in some nine Gurung films, half dozen music videos and few advertisements. Now, she will be seen in the film ‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’ set to hit screen from November 1 (Katrik 15).
Producer of the film Rabindra Singh Baniya met Rajani in course of his travel to the Lake City to select an artist for the film. A character with Gurung looks was needed for the film. Baniya took audition of Rajani and showed the footage to Basnet. Finally, she was called to Katmandu and the shooting of the film started after a long workshop.
“His working style is so professional. He never demoralized me,” said Rajani, “A simple and easy going man who cares every small detail.”
Her character in the film has been kept under cover till now. “I have played a role of woman left by her husband who owns a local beer brewery (bhatti) shop in a village,” she said, “Let’s not reveal further details.” She didn’t have permission from the film unit to reveal her character, but finally opened up after repeated requests.

She was further exited by watching the film while dubbing. “I could not control my laughter while dubbing …!!!. The film is full of fun. It will be a hit for sure.”
She is aware that Janajati artists get less chance in movies produced in the capital than in mofussil, but says filmmakers should select a character according to acting and script than face. Now, Rajani wishes to work in other films in the capital. However, she said that she won’t stop working in Gurung movies.
