Nepali’s documentary film awarded in Chicago International Children Film Festival

Nepali documentary film ‘Dhartipurta’ has been awarded at the 33rd Chicago International Children Film Festival. The film received the second prize in the competitive festival is produced by 16-year-old Aditya Khadka. A total of 289 films were in the competition where Khadka’s film won an award in the Young Filmmaker category.

Chicago International Children Film is one of the most reputed film festivals in the world and is the biggest film festival for children and youth in North America.

‘Dhartiputra’ is a short documentary film which portrays the unbelievable survival of four-month-old Sonis Awal during the 2015 earthquake in Nepal. He was rescued after being buried under his house for 22 hours. The documentary focuses on emotions and feelings of Rasmeela (Sonis’s mother) during those 22 hours and after her son being rescued.

Earlier, Dhartiputra had won the ‘Best Documentary’ award in the Real Time Film Festival, Nigeria. The documentary has been selected in various festivals and has also bagged two awards along with the ‘Best Documentary’ award in Scout Film Festival 2016 and received 3rd prize at the Seismic Shift Category in Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival last year.

Aditya Khadka is currently studying in Grade 10 at Vidhya Sanskar School. He has made a couple of documentaries which includes Dhartiputra.
